20mm (1/72) Germans for Battlegroup Kursk

Aside from Bolt Action,  I've got the Battlegroup series of rules, (two of the books, Kursk and Overlord, dealing with those two particular eras).

I've not managed to get a game of Battlegroup, it looks a little complicated compared to Bolt Action.  What really drew me in with this is the scale, 20mm (1/72) is the scale I remember from being a kid and it pleases my OCD to have lots of little things rather than a few big things.

Anyway, provisionally I was going to knock up the two starter lists from the rulebook, in a scenario called Clash of Reconnasiance, and try the lists out using Bolt Action rules.

The German force is as follows -

Grenadier Platoon, with 50mm PaK 38 (and tow)

232 Armoured car
233 Armoured car
Pz IVG (reserve)

Couldn't quite get the whole platoon in, so it's only two squads of Grenadiers, ably provided by a mix of PSC and AB miniatures. As its supposed to be a reconnaisance platoon, I've put them in half tracks (from PSC). The truck is a generic US army truck, and the 232 and 233 are fiddly little models made by Roden.  The IVG and the Kubelwagen are from Airfix.

233 and half tracks!

And the 232.  I like this model, it did come with the plastic frame antenna but I managed to break it off at some point.

Costing these up using Bolt Action, it comes out at about 1075 points -

  • Reg 2nd Lt + 1 man - 60 points
  • Reg 10 man Grenadier Squad with LMG, SMG and rifles  -123
  • Reg 10 man Grenadier Squad with LMG, SMG and rifles - 123
  • Reg 50mm PaK 38 Med ATG with tow   - 114
  • Reg 233 Armoured car, light Howitzer + MMG - 120
  • Reg 232 Armoured car, light Autocannon - 100
  • 2 x Reg 251 halftracks with front MMGs - 178
  • Reg Kubelwagen - 21
Total 1074.

next up, Soviets!
